Free Things to Do in Fort Myers This Weekend

Planning a trip to Fort Myers but watching your wallet? You can still pack your weekend with sun, culture, and nature. April brings mild weather perfect for outdoor adventures. Best of all, plenty of spots cost nothing.

This guide covers free things Fort Myers offers right now, from Saturday markets to serene trails. Grab your sunscreen. Let's dive into the lineup for April 11 and 12.

Saturday Farmers Market Buzz

Start your weekend at the Fort Myers Farmers Market. It runs Saturdays and features local produce, handmade goods, and fresh flowers. Vendors set up early, so arrive by 8 a.m. for the best picks.

Wander stalls filled with juicy oranges, heirloom tomatoes, and artisan honey. Chat with growers about their farms. Kids love spotting exotic veggies or petting friendly goats at nearby booths. Parking is free downtown, but spaces fill fast.

Sample free tastes of jams or cheeses. In addition, live music often plays, adding rhythm to your stroll. This spot draws locals and visitors alike. Therefore, expect a lively crowd by noon.

For more market details, check the City of Fort Myers calendar. It updates hourly.

Beach Days Without the Fees

Fort Myers beaches shine for free fun. Head to Bowditch Point Regional Park on Fort Myers Beach. This 17-acre spot offers Gulf access, trails, and picnic areas at no charge.

Walk soft sands or fish from the free public dock. Shelling peaks at low tide, so check apps for times. Families enjoy calm bay waters for splashing. Parking uses a mobile pay system, but walking paths stay open.

Sunset views stun here. One person strolling the shore captures the peace perfectly.

Bring a blanket for downtime. However, arrive early on weekends; spots near water go quick. Dogs welcome on leashes before 9 a.m. Learn more at the Bowditch Point Park page.

Hike the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

Escape crowds at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. This free gem sits minutes from I-75 with a 1.2-mile boardwalk through cypress swamps.

Spot alligators, otters, and birds along the trail. Spanish moss drapes ancient trees, and reflections dance in still waters. Sunlight filters through, creating magical spots.

Open dawn to dusk daily. Trails suit all ages, with benches for rests. Mosquitoes bite after rain, so pack repellent. In short, it's old Florida at its best. See trail tips on the Six Mile Cypress page.

Art and History on a Budget

Culture thrives free this weekend. Visit the Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery for the "Lucky Charms" exhibit, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admire local artists' works in a cozy space.

Meanwhile, Mound House offers free guided tours all day Saturday. Explore Calusa history atop ancient shell mounds. Views overlook Estero Bay.

April galleries host free walks too. Stroll downtown Fort Myers for murals and exhibits. Parking stays easy near River District.

In November 2024, Matt saw an ugly Facebook post bashing our local homeless community. Matt used to be homeless himself in 2009 and 2010, after he moved to Alaska from Florida during the housing crash. Because of the kindness and compassion he received from total strangers, Matt was able to get back on his feet. That support helped him become the business owner we know today, the Matt behind 1st Class Delivery. After seeing that post, Matt put a plan into action. The very next day, he went on Facebook and started asking for donations. He asked for shampoo, lotion, and any unopened personal care items people had sitting around. He also began collecting donations to buy knapsacks. 1st Class Delivery added funds of its own to purchase more items. Each “assistance bag” included water bottles, toothpaste and a toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, and more. Just a few basics to help people who are really down on their luck and trying to get by. Thanks to the community’s help and support, we put together nearly 100 bags for people in need. These bags were donated and distributed through the Cape Coral Police Department and FK Your Diet in Fort Myers, Florida.

Thanks to SJC Technology, Nick Rinella, Tyler Mattingly (Keller Williams Realtor), Aaron Killian with AKS Mobile Detailing, Amy Campbell with Campbell's Interiors & more, and Alex Ebel with Urban Buzz Coffee, plus contributions from yours truly at 1st Class Delivery, we donated about 600 pounds of turkeys, roughly 20 to 30 birds, to local food pantries this Thanksgiving. Our main beneficiary was the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Fort Myers, along with other local pantries.
